HISTORY: This Society was the earliest society to be founded on tear and lachrymal diseases. It was founded in 1982, and has had periodical triennial congresses since then (Lubbock, TX 1984, Budapest 1987, Amsterdam 1990, Madrid 1993, Stockholm 1996, Jerusalem 1999, New Orleans 2002). Its next congress will take place in Madrid, from April 1st to April 3rd 2005.

The International Society of Dacryology is a scientific society for the research and diffusion of knowledge in the lachrymal domain and its main topics are basic research on tears, tear film  and ocular surface, medical application, and lachrymal surgery. It also accepts contributions in psychology, phylogeny, ontogeny, zoology, arts, history and any topics related with tears. The Society also includes a division for the membership of patients with dry eye or any other dacryological diseases. This membership includes courses that may eventually contribute with their experience and collaboration to the Society.

During its last, VIIth Congress in New Orleans, the International Society of Dacryology decided to suppress the annual fee of the members, and to limit the income of the Society to the registration fees to the congresses.

ACTIVITIES:    The International Society of Dacryology and Dry Eye has periodical courses and periodical triennial international congresses.

The triennial congresses are decided at the preceeding congress. The next congress will take place in Madrid, on 1-3 April 2005. The official language will be English.

The periodical courses are usually national meetings that have two simultaneous events, one for scientific participants and attendants, and another for patients with dry eye. These courses are held in the language of the country where they take place and/or in English.

As we consider that you may be interested in Dacryology and Dry Eye, i.e., knowledge related with tears, we invite you to take part of the World Society of Dacryology & Dry Eye. Please fill out the membership application, and give it to the congress stewardess or send by mail or e-mail. Your membership only implies you will receive periodical information on the activities of the Society and related events.
